Local Paramedic Recognized For 30 Years of Service

Mike Paston, NREMT 30 Years

March 20, 2013

Michael Paston, a Flight Paramedic with AeroCare Medical Transport, was recently recognized by the Board of Directors of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for achieving 30 consecutive years as a Nationally Registered EMT. This distinction is an honor held by few EMTs.

To maintain his status as a Nationally Registered EMT, Michael completed, on a biennial basis, the most comprehensive recertification process for Emergency Medical Technicians in America. He not only completed courses to refresh his fundamental knowledge and skills but also attended a minimum of two hours per month of additional continuing education courses to advance his knowledge on new lifesaving skills.

Michael began his career in EMS in 1976 in upstate New York. In 1981, Michael graduated with an associates’ degree in paramedicine and began working at Metro Ambulance Service, currently known as Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA), Tulsa, Oklahoma. While gaining valuable “street smarts” on ground ambulance units his interest in air transport was sparked and, in 1989, he founded AeroMed (AeroCare Medical Transport). AeroCare is now majority-owned by the Zuni Tribe of New Mexico and Michael continues serving as a Flight Paramedic and the Special Operations Coordinator.

His involvement in the transport community goes far beyond AeroCare Medical Transport. Michael has been a strong advocate of the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) and the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS). Michael currently serves on the Oklahoma Regional Trauma Advisory Board, Region 7.
